Born into a famous
Mandinko musical family, from the Cassamance region of Senegal, West Africa, Mamadou’s father, Abdoulaye was a founding member
of the Ucas band of Sedhiou, one of the pioneers of the Afro- Manding sound. "Vieux" is a gifted song writer, singer and guitarist,
and his music is a fusion of Mbalax, Afro-Manding and World Beat.
Mamadou played and toured with many bands in Senegal,
playing rhythm guitar and bass with such groups as Le Ninki Nanka, Djby Wade, Yela Diop, Super N'galou, M'balax System, Ali
Boulo Santo and Fakoli. He also lived and studied music with the Cissoko Family, where he played in their Dance and Drum Company.
He is currently the rhythm guitar player for Fakoli here in the US and also performs as a solo artist and with his own
band, Diatta. He lives in High Falls, New York.
